Inside a bedroom at Strathallan House
The process of moving into long term residential care can be
a very distressing and traumatic experience, and is often viewed as a loss of
independence.
At Strathallan House we endeavour to relieve the burden of this
experience by focussing on the needs of the client. However, it is
important that this uniqueness of each individual is not overlooked while
attempting to meet the needs of all elderly people. Our carers therefore, are
encouraged to appreciate that the skills of compassion, empathy and imagination
have equal importance with those of clinical competence. If carers lack
understanding of the emotional and social aspects of individuals, it is more
difficult for them to see clients and people with needs and wants other than
physical which change and develop over time.
Our Aims
To this end, Mistral Care Homes will strive to:
-
Provide a secure home for as long as is needed
-
Seek the maximum development of each individual within their potential
-
Provide the highest level of physical care for each individual
-
Promote within each individual the belief that his/ her life and activities
are valuable and valid
Our Objectives
To realise these aims, the
management at Mistral Care Homes have set objectives that will be met for every
client. These are set out below:
-
To provide a variety of
meaningful activities for all clients
-
To provide individual personal
plans for each client. Issues relating to leisure and occupation will be
included in individual care plans and appropriate support arranged to ensure
that opportunities are maximised. A properly prepared individual personal
plan will provide the following:
-
Information on need
-
The managements ability to
meet these needs
-
An identification of any
unmet needs and how these will be met
-
To implement a staff training
programme which ensures staff are able to provide an effective service of
excellence, delivered with compassion, confidence and expertise to our
clients.
-
To ensure that regular staff
meetings take place at all levels of management and staff within the
organisation. Regular management and staff meetings are a crucial part of any
organisation. Individual supervision of staff is a crucial part of ensuring
good professional practice and helps communication within the organisation.
Individual supervision sessions should take place with all staff at least once
every three months.
-
To assist clients in securing
appropriate medical care and to ensure that public services provide them with
the same standard supplied to others. To council clients on the choice of
services available to them.
